How I Contribute To Core

Do More

WordPress and WooCommerce are Free and Open-Source Software (FOSS). These two projects and trademarks are managed by a company named Automattic and distributed under the GPLv2 Or Later license.

Companies and community members such as myself are asked to give back. Here’s how I’ve been doing that:

  • Presenting and local Meetup and WordCamp events
  • Sharing useful WooCommerce code snippets and blog posts
  • Providing complete bug reports to WordPress, WooCommerce, themes and plugins
  • Ensuring that code of theme and plugin vendors is GPLv2 compatible
  • Writing and supporting plugins on WordPress.org community repository
  • Migrating page builder contents over to WordPress Blocks community system
  • Improving reputation by isolating and fixing hindrances to performance
  • Upgrading PHP (server software) to the latest supported versions for security and longevity
  • Removing old, unsupported custom code that creates a lock-in effect
  • Supporting sensible customizations that get the most out of the platform
  • Helping business clients better understand open-source
  • Holding vendors accountable, especially official Woo plugin vendors whenever I catch them falling behind
  • Holding hosting companies accountable for performance and feature completeness
