You had me at Storefront–Benefits of using the official WooCommerce theme

Storefront* is the official open-source theme for WooCommerce powered stores. WooCommerce site administrators revel in the fact they can integrate the World’s most powerful eCommerce software with their existing site and design. Do consider this alternative, as there are significant benefits to implementing the official theme and making your site’s design work with it. Storefront can improve both form and function with a little patience in working it to suit your design needs.

Performance. Storefront will always be up to date with the best practices for your store. I’m referring to code efficiency, portable device responsiveness, search engine friendliness, internationalization, accessibility, and a superior WordPress Theme Customizer settings panel. Most importantly, the theme is well vetted by a large community of developers and users and with all of the official WooCommerce Extensions. Most of your testing is done for you!

I’ll tell you a quick story. Recently on a client site I ran into a conflict with the Amazon Pay extension*. There was a conflict between the theme responsiveness logic and the various iframe elements that extension uses for securely selecting your Amazon account addresses and payment method for the purchase. The result was an undesirable overlay effect that made completing checkout impossible for subscription products when the user was not logged in. Good news – The problem did not reproduce using the Storefront theme, and in fact was styled quite well out of the box.

Extendibility. Using the official theme also adds a wealth of features and extendibility options. It comes with its own ecosystem of presently 13+ official extensions* that allow you to add-on powerful features, such as sticky cart, pricing tables or better product reviews. It also comes with an ecosystem of presently 14+ official child themes* that offer prebuilt designs for your store. Beyond the Customizer settings panel and these official resources, you can also use CSS in your own child theme to design your store manually.

I am working on my own extensions for the Storefront theme. Let me know if you are looking for anything in particular. I might be able to help! You can also tell the community and report any bugs.

Disclosure: I use affiliate links to make commissions for folks purchasing official extensions off the WooCommerce.com site. Please support me!
