Co-organizing WordCamp Santa Clarita

,
University Center - College of the Canyons

The website for WordCamp Santa Clarita 2020 #wcscv is now live and our call for speakers is up! The dates are Friday and Saturday April 3rd-4th, 2020 and the location will remain College of the Canyons University Center just off the I-5 freeway at McBean Parkway in sunny Santa Clarita.

WordCamp is a worldwide series of conferences, volunteer organized and attended by hundreds of users of the open-source WordPress.org and related website software. Tickets cost $50 for both days, which includes full access, refreshments, lunches, and an event t-shirt. A speakers / sponsors event is held on Friday evening, serving as gratitude and as a networking opportunity. A reception event is held for all attendees on Saturday evening.

We have several WordCamps in Southern California. Historically held at CSU Los Angeles, CSU Long Beach, UC Irvine, SolarMax in Riverside, and SDCC in San Diego. These events are organized and ushered by volunteers and co-organizers, whom you can identify wearing a color-coded branded t-shirts.

At this time we’re asking folks to propose session topics for us to review. Our calls for sponsors, volunteers and opening of attendee ticket sales are forthcoming. Please stay tuned or subscribe for updates via the form in that website’s footer area. I hope to see folks I know and make new acquaintances there in early April.

This is my second year co-organizing WordCamp along with Lead Organizer Joe Simpson Jr. plus several co-organizers in charge of Facilities, Speakers, Sponsors, Volunteers and more. We hope to grow from last year’s already stellar inaugural event turnout and are targeting 250 attendees.

My role this year is Website Wrangler. I’m also working with some band buddies of mine to perform live jazz during lunch break on Saturday (venue approval pending), as has been popularized at past WordCamp US conferences due to the connection between software releases and jazz great musicians.

Feel free to reach out to me if you’d like any further information about this upcoming conference. See you in April!

Feb 6th update: There won’t be any live music this year due to some restrictions. See you at camp anyways!
